Bangalore news Highlights: As the political crisis continues in Karnataka, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court verdict on pleas moved by the dissident MLAs against Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar scheduled to be announced today. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi who heard a clutch of petitions filed by 10 MLAs of the Congress and JDS coalition government against the Speaker for not accepting their resignations on Tuesday had decided the same. Five other legislators had also followed suit and filed pleas in the Court.

KSRTC fine Collection towards ticket Less Passengers

KSRTC has arranged checking of its services operated in the State and neighboring States. In the month of JUNE-2019,42,469 buses were checked, 4673 Pilferage cases were detected, 5827 ticket less passengers penalized, Rs.7,56,661/- fine collected and Rs.99,570/- pilferage amount detected. According to KSRTC press release, Disciplinary action has been initiated against the erring staff.

Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court decision, giving him the freedom to decide on the resignations of rebel MLAs, and said he would conduct himself responsibly in accordance with the principles of the Constitution.

“With utmost humility I welcome and respect the Supreme Court decision,” Kumar said soon after the apex court pronounced its order on the issue that has pushed the state into political turmoil.

“The Supreme Court has put extra burden on me, I will conduct myself responsibly in accordance with constitutional principle,” he told reporters in Kolar, his home town.

"Our petition of disqualification is not related to any party whip. The same stands even after this verdict as they (rebel MLAs) have voluntarily given up the membership with a purpose to sabotage this government joining hands with the BJP," said AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal.

"They are various evidence that shows BJP's hands in this mass resignation. Our disqualification petition (submitted to the Karnataka speaker) is to look into that issue," he further said.

Karnataka crisis: SC verdict a moral victory for rebel MLAs, says Yeddyurappa

Karnataka BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court order on the political crisis, asserting that it was a “moral victory” for the rebel MLAs, whose resignations have pushed the ruling Congress-JDS coalition to the brink of collapse.

Yeddyurappa underlined that the political parties cannot issue a whip to the 15 rebel lawmakers, who have resigned their Assembly membership, and they cannot be compelled to attend the House proceedings.

SC rules: Rebel Karnataka MLAs can’t be compelled to participate in trust vote

The Supreme Court Wednesday left it to the Karnataka Assembly Speaker to decide on the resignations of the 15 rebel Congress and Janata Dal (S) MLAs but ordered that they should not be compelled to attend the proceedings of the state Assembly. The apex court’s order comes ahead of the floor test that is scheduled to take place in Karnataka Assembly tomorrow.

Bangalore metro stations likely to get electric vehicle charging units

Metro stations in Bangalore's Namma Metro line might soon get electric vehicle charging (EVC)units, thanks to a recent proposal made by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM). The same has been incorporated to BESCOM's ongoing project to begin 112 EVC units by the end of August. According to BESCOM officials, 10 stations are likely to be selected and a joint survey will be conducted to look at the feasibility of the same before implementation.

Man forgets bag with valuables in BMTC bus, gets it back next day

A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus passenger left his bag with valuables on a bus on Monday. However, the citizen is delighted to have received the bag from the officials the next day, without missing anything. The passenger, Sahidul Shaikh, was travelling from New Horizon College to Multiplex by a 500 D BMTC Volvo bus around 9 pm on Monday after which he realised he had left his handbag in the bus. After raising a complaint at the Hebbal depot, he was called on Tuesday afternoon and his bag which had 2 laptops, his passport, voter ID card, power bank and such was returned. "I want to thank the BMTC for its awesome service. The behaviour of the staff in the depot is so nice that they helped me in this situation. My special thanks to the bus driver Kumar who got the bag back," the delighted passenger said.

At the same time, Congress MLAs arrive at a resort ahead of the trust vote. Congress MLAs shifted to Windflower Prakruthi Resort, Devanahalli from Taj Yeshwantpur hotel on Tuesday. CM Kumaraswamy’s confidence motion through which he will seek to prove his majority will be taken up on July 18.
