The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President DK Shivakumar has claimed that his phone was being tapped.
Shivakumar has written to Bengaluru city police commissioner Kamal Pant asking to conduct an inquiry into the matter. “There is a disturbance in incoming phone outgoing calls. I strongly doubt the phone tapping,” he said in his letter to the commissioner.
In what can be considered as the first competitive exam to be held amid the pandemic – Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2020 result has been declared. Despite the pandemic, 1.53 lakh students had appeared for the exam. A little above 1.75 lakh had applied to appear for the exam but as per the statistics given by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), slightly over 20,000 gave it a miss. Among these students, 63 COVID positive students had also appeared for the exams held on July 30, 31.
This year, despite the pandemic, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has announced the result in record time. The result was announced 21 days after conducting the exam. The fastest so far was 25 days. The KCET result was initially scheduled to be released on August 20 but was postponed due to “technical” reasons. It is still the fastest declaration so far despite the delay.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa offered traditional ‘Bagina’ at Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam in Mandya district and Kabini dam in Mysuru district and also offered prayers to Goddess Cauvery on Friday.
Offering ‘Bagina’ is a ritual performed by every chief minister in Karnataka beginning from R Gundurao in early eighties on the occasion of dams getting filled to its brim.
Yediyurappa, accompanied by Mandya MP A Sumalatha, offered Bagina at 12.05 pm at KRS dam. From there, he left by helicopter to H D Kote taluk and offered Bagina at Kabini dam in Mysuru district along with Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar, MLA Anil Chikkamadu, DC Abhiram G Sankar.
Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu’s mother Honnuramma passed away at Ballari on Friday early morning, Sriramulu announced on Twitter.
Honnuramma (95) had been admitted to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru for Covid-19 treatment. After recovery, she returned to Ballari two days back. On Thursday night, her health deteriorated and she was admitted to a hospital in Ballari. She breathed her last at around 2 am on Friday.

Deputy CM Ashwathnarayan said that two candidates who were asymptomatic and COVID-19 positive have bagged good ranks - Rank 214 and Rank 615. A total of 63 candidates who were positive had taken the exams on July 30, 31.
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has modified seating alignment in its buses to ensure adequate distance between passengers, in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus situation.
A total of 83 students scored 60/60 in the exams.
Over 1.53 lakh students have qualified for engineering seats, after the KCET results were declared today.

"As many as 1,75,349 students out of the total 1,94,419 candidates who registered for KCET appeared for the test," Deputy CM Ashwathnarayan said declaring the results.
"Exams were held on Varamahalakshmi festival day, the results are declared on Gowri Habba Day," Ashwathnarayan, who is also in charge of the Higher Education Department says. This is the fastest timeframe in which results have been announced (21 days). The fastest before this was 25 days, he added.
In a bid to facilitate transport facilities for candidates attending the Karnataka Public Service Commission preliminary exams, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has decided to operate extra services.
These services, according to KSRTC officials, will be from main districts/taluks to headquarters of exam centres a day before the exam (Aug 23) and on the exam day (Aug 24).
In the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic situation, Bengaluru’s iconic eleven-day Ganesh Utsav will be streamed live online. The event, which has been held consecutively for the last 58 years, is immensely popular with the participation of the country’s top musicians and actors.
Ganesh Utsav organisers told Indianexpress.com that the stage has already been set up at an auditorium and over 500 artists are expected to participate in various programmes. “We wanted to ensure that the tradition is continued even during these tough times without compromising the safety and other matters of concern of our attendees. Hence, people will get a chance to watch them live, with various performances lined up at a stretch for 12 hours. Poojas will also be live-streamed,” a member of the organising team said.

The Karnataka government has decided to conduct a survey to estimate the prevalence of COVID-19 across the state and the proportion of people who have developed an immunity. The survey, which will involve adults over the age of 18, will cover 38 units, including all districts of Karnataka and 8 zones of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Commissioner, Department of Health and Family Welfare, on Thursday inaugurated the training program for District Surveillance Officers, District Tuberculosis Officers, Epidemiologists, and Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres under NACO.
According to the health department, the survey data is expected to guide state interventions for COVID-19 management.
“The survey will include samples from populations at three risk levels. Low-risk populations include pregnant women presenting at ANC clinics and persons attending the outpatient department in hospitals or attendees of children or patients. Moderate to high risk populations will include bus conductors, vegetable vendors, healthcare workers, individuals in containment zones, and individuals in meeting areas such as markets, malls, bus stops, and railway stations. High-risk populations will include the elderly and persons with comorbid conditions,” the release said.
Data for the survey will be collected using an app to register patients, update sample collection status and lab results. the release added.
Karnataka Thursday launched an Artificial Intelligence-(AI) driven movable hospital, designed in the form of pods to contain the spread of contagious diseases such as Covid-19 and prevent cross-contamination at hospitals.
Developed by Vevra, a Bengaluru-based startup, the movable hospital, named Vevra Pods, was e-launched by Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar. “AI has the potential to transform the healthcare sector. More technology start-ups should focus on developing low-cost solutions to make healthcare more accessible and affordable,” he said.

The Karnataka department of pre-university education has launched the science textbooks translated into Kannada.
According to the department, the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology textbooks are translated to Kannada and they will be available for reference from the current academic year.
Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar released the Kannada translated textbooks on Thursday.
“For over 650 government colleges, the department will supply one copy of the translated textbook (PCMB) to keep in the libraries for reference of students”, the department said.
Over a week after violence was reported from the streets of Devarajeevanahalli (DJ Halli) and Kadugodanahalli (KG Halli) in East Bengaluru, the Karnataka government Thursday said they did not take any decision to ban “certain organisations” which were allegedly behind the violence on the night of August 11.
“We had a detailed discussion but we did not make any concrete decision because as of now we don’t have any report (from police and other government departments) and we closed the matter after discussing it,” Law Minister J C Madhuswamy told reporters after a meeting of the State cabinet.

From allowing only one Ganesha pandal per ward to restricting celebrations to three days, this year’s Gowri-Ganesha festival celebrations in Bengaluru will be different in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
While Gowri Habba falls on Friday this year, the Ganesha festival will be celebrated the next day, albeit with certain restrictions even though the Karnataka government decided to relax Covid-19 guidelines to allow celebrations.

The results of the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (K-CET) 2020 will be announced at around 12.30 pm on Friday.
Earlier, the results were supposed to release on August 20, but later Karnataka deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwathnarayan said: “The results of the CET exam, which was due to be announced on August 20 will now be announced on August 21 (Friday) due to technical reasons.”
This year, K-CET was held amid the Covid-19 crisis and over 1.94 lakh students had registered for the test. Candidates can access their results through https://karresults.nic.in. Those who clear KCET will have to participate in the counselling process. There will be two rounds of counselling which will be held after the NEET and JEE counselling. The exact dates of counselling are not out yet.
According to statistics shared by the Karnataka Examinations Authority, the physics paper was attended by 1,75,428 candidates (90.23 per cent of those enrolled) while 1,75,337 (90.10 per cent) attended the chemistry test. The same for biology and mathematics, on Thursday, was 79.90 per cent and 91.92 per cent respectively.
The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided to conduct the monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Councils from September 21 to 30 in Bengaluru.
Karnataka Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday has decided to conduct the sessions taking all the precautionary measures for COVID-19. But the government has not clarified about where and how the session will be held in the mid of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council sessions will be held between 21-30 September 2020. The Cabinet can only decide the date. How it will be conducted will have to be worked out with the Legislative Assembly Speaker and the Legislative Council Chairman. We will announce it soon,” Karnataka Minister of Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation JC Madhuswamy said.
