A family of three died in a road accident on the outskirts of Bengaluru when the car they were traveling in lost control and hit the barrier Thursday.
The victims have been identified as Gopal, 60, his wife Shashikala, 55, and their daughter Deepa, 30, all residents of Malleswaram. Deepa’s two children — Bhuvan, 4, and Aadhya, 18 months — survived the crash near Dobbaspet, and are currently out of danger.
They left Bengaluru Thursday morning in a Maruti Celerio for Sira in the Tumakuru district to attend a naming ceremony. The accident occurred around 10.30 am near the Lakkuru railway bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway.
The car veered into the left-side barrier, but investigators are unsure why. The police say there were no signs of sudden braking, and the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy. “The cause of the accident is still unclear. We’re investigating further,” said a police officer involved in the case.
While Shashikala, who was sitting in the front, died on the spot, Gopal and Deepa succumbed to injuries en route to the hospital. Deepa’s husband, who lives in Pune, has since reached Bengaluru, the police added.
