The Bengaluru police arrested Bollywood actor Shakthi Kapoor’s son Siddhanth Kapoor and four others for allegedly consuming drugs at a party on Sunday night.

According to the police, they raided a five-star hotel in the Karnataka capital and took into custody 35 guests on the basis of a tip-off. After a medical test, Siddhanth, Akhil Soni, business manager at a software company; Harjot Singh, logistics head at a startup; Hani Rafeeque, a digital marketing professional; and Akhil, a freelance photographer, were arrested.

A police official said that Siddhanth was the disc jockey at the event and that most of the partygoers were from north India. Deputy commissioner of police (east) Bheemashankar S Guled said that the medical test showed that Siddhanth had consumed drugs. An investigation is underway.

Siddhanth is the brother of actor Shraddha Kapoor. An actor and assistant director, Sidhhanth has worked in more than 20 films.

Guled said the police had seized seven tablets of MDMA, a banned drug also known as ecstasy, and a small amount of marijuana from a dustbin at the party venue. “We have collected the CCTV footage and are going through all of it as we suspect they might have destroyed or disposed of the drugs before or after the arrival of police. The event was open to the public. An event management firm had organised the programme, where Siddhanth Kapoor had come down to Bengaluru with his assistant,” he said.

The five accused were booked under Section 22a (where the contravention involves small quantity), 22b (where the contravention involves quantity lesser than commercial quantity but greater than small quantity) and 27 (where the narcotic drug or psychotropic substance consumed is other than those specified) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

In September 2020, actors Ragini Dwivedi, Sanjjanaa Galrani and several others were arrested on the charges of drug consumption. While the case against Ragini and Sanjjanaa is pending trial, the Karnataka High Court in January quashed proceedings against Virendra Khanna, the event manager who was also booked in the case registered at the Cottonpet police station.
