BJP leaders attack Karnataka govt hours after arrest of man for posts against Congress manifesto

Hours after arrest of a Goa man for allegedly making false claims against Congress manifesto, the BJP leaders have attacked the Karnataka government over its high handedness.

The cybercrime police of Bengaluru on Saturday arrested a man from Goa over his alleged tweet.

Under the account BhikuMhatre, the accused on 22 April had tweeted, “Throw this in face of Every Liberal & Every Piddi who was arguing that CONgress Menifesto doesn’t mention “Mu$£ims” specifically & it includes SC/STs Also. CONgress WANTS TO TAKE AWAY WEALTH FROM HINDUS & DISTRIBUTING TO MU$£IMS “ONLY” AS IT HATES HINDUS INCL. SC/STs.” However, now the tweet has been deleted.

J Saravanan, a Bengaluru resident and Congress worker had filed a complaint with the cybercrime police on 29 April.

The cyber crime police had registered a case against the X user under section 153(a) of Indian Penal Code and 66(c) of information technology act.

A police officer said that the accused was arrested. Nagesh Naik, his son on X said, ”
My father @MumbaichaDon has been arrested by @DgpKarnataka @CPBlr @BlrCityPolice A mail was sent by TWITTER and suddenly in the evening the Police showed up at the doorstep and took away my father! FIR is totally NOT pertinent! #ReleaseBhikuMhatre.”

Soon after the news broke, the BJP attacked Karnataka state government over the arrest. BJP National IT cell head Amit Malviya on X said, “Karnataka Police has arrested @MumbaichaDon from Goa. We are in touch with his family and will ensure he gets all legal support. Congress has unleashed anarchy and is intolerant of dissent. But there won’t be another #Emergency in this country, ever.”

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said, “This is blatant abuse of power by Karnataka Congress Govt. We will fight this, both inside courts and outside.”
