Worker killed and 5 missing after under-construction building collapses in Bengaluru

Police say heavy rainfall may have led to the collapse of the six-storey building at Anjanadri Layout in north Bengaluru.

At least one worker was killed and 20 others were trapped under the debris after an under-construction building collapsed in Bengaluru on Tuesday afternoon, police said, adding that while 14 of them were rescued, five people are still missing.

A police official said that heavy rainfall might have led to the collapse of the six-storey building at Anjanadri Layout in north Bengaluru.

The building collapsed around 4 pm as the workers inside the building, according to the police.

Sources from the Fire and Emergency Services said the control room was alerted at 4.10 pm.

D Devaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), is monitoring the rescue operations.

The police have contacted the building’s owner for further investigation.
