A day after a man died by suicide by jumping in front of a Metro train in Bengaluru, the investigating officials on Sunday said he was estranged from his family and lived alone.

On Saturday, the deceased identified as Naveen Kumar Arora, 57, a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout, jumped in front of an approaching Metro train from Platform 1 at the Doddakallasandra Metro station around 5.45 pm.

A police officer said, “He (Arora) was running a hardware shop in K R market but it recently incurred losses. There were domestic disputes over the same and he was staying alone in a hotel room. He has two kids. His 26-year-old son runs a clothing store and 22-year-old daughter works in a private firm. Arora had borrowed money from his friends and relatives and was not getting any further help to revive his business.”

He added, “People who had given him money had started demanding it back. He had also taken some loans from his relatives in Uttar Pradesh. He was in severe depression because of these issues.”

A police officer who analysed the CCTV footage from the Metro station said the victim was not accompanied by anyone at the time of his suicide.
