Incredible Chef Challenge, the annual competition celebrating the best chefs and academia, began at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru Tuesday. With 2023 being the International Year of Millets, this year’s focus will be on lost food recipes using millets.
The South India Chefs’ Association (SICA) and the World of Hospitality organise the three-day event as part of the World of Hospitality Expo, which is simultaneously taking place in New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa as well.
The competition is open to chefs and students from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and 200 chefs have registered under seven categories.
Chef Sudhakar N Rao, director and principal of Culinary Academy of India, who will be a judge at the event, said, “Culinary competitions like Incredible Chef Challenge give a much-needed platform to young minds to bring their creative best and to prepare them to bring their uniqueness to professional kitchens. We must support such events and create a strong roadmap for the food and beverage industry.”
Participants are encouraged to contemporise traditional recipes using millet so that they can be prepared in a modern way, said SICA executive director Nageshwaran A.
Dr Jitendra P Dongare, deputy agricultural marketing adviser, Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries, inaugurated the event. A special talk on ‘Future of Food and Beverages in India’ in India will be hosted by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry & Commerce and the Food Service Consultants Association of India (FSCAI).
The World Hospitality Expo will also host several sessions on the latest trends and technologies transforming the hospitality sector.
Professional Housekeepers Association will conduct a housekeepers conclave highlighting the evolving cleanliness and hygiene norms.
