Angered by girlfriend’s engagement, Bengaluru man rapes and kills her

A police officer said Manoj went to the victim’s house and tried to convince her to marry him instead of the man she was engaged to. When she refused, he allegedly raped her and smothered her to death using a pillow. He then fled the spot and went to his home. The incident came to light when the victim’s parents arrived at the house around 10 pm.

After the police were informed of the crime, they went to arrest Manoj who allegedly attempted suicide and was shifted to a nearby hospital where he is presently being treated.

The police said their investigations revealed that Manoj and the victim worked at the same place three years ago. He proposed marriage to her but she did not accept it. Later, Manoj quit the firm and joined a real estate firm. A year ago, they again met on Facebook and began chatting and when Manoj proposed to her, she accepted it, said the police.

However, the victim’s parents arranged her marriage with another person which upset Manoj. On Tuesday, he went to the victim’s house and allegedly killed her.

The police have also booked Manoj on rape charges as he allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim. “We do not know whether it was consensual sex or rape. But the victim’s parents in their complaint have alleged rape and we have taken up the case,” a police officer said.

A police officer Manoj will be taken into police custody for further questioning after he recovers.
