In the last 11 years, ‘zero tolerance against terrorism’ has not remained a slogan but has been implemented on ground by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in Gandhinagar on Sunday.

He also said that it has been well established not only in India but in the entire world as well that no mischief should be done with India’s Army and its border.

Shah was speaking after inaugurating a new consolidated emergency helpline service, 112, and developmental projects of the Gujarat Police.

The function was also attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah said, “It has been well established in 11 years of (PM) Modi’s Prime Ministership that not only in India but in the entire world that no mischief should be done with India’s Army and its border.”

He lambasted the previous Congress governments and alleged that there was a time when various parts of the country witnessed a series of bomb blasts for years and the Prime Ministers of the Congress would not dare to utter a word against Pakistan.

“After Narendrabhai (Modi) became Prime Minister, Pakistan made three mistakes by launching major attacks in Uri, Pulwama and Pahalgam. On all three occasions, Pakistan was given a strong lesson by the Narendra Modi government. First time, a surgical strike was carried out; second time, air strike was done. And the third time, Operation Sindoor was launched, not in Pak-Occupied Kashmir, but 100 km inside Pakistan border, and the headquarters of terrorists were destroyed…India sent a strong message across the world that it is committed to go any extent for its right to self defence – to protect its border and its people,” Shah said.

“I believe that in the last 11 years, ‘zero tolerance against terrorism’ has not remained a mere slogan, (but) has been implemented on ground by the Prime Minister of the country and worthy son of Gujarat, Narendrabhai. In the last 11 years, the Narendra Modi government has taught lessons to terror and armed groups in North-East, Naxal-infested regions and Kashmir. And in the North-East, more than 10,000 armed people have surrendered. The Naxals who were dreaming of a red-corridor from Kathmandu to Tirupati are on the verge of extinction.”

“Today, from the land of Gujarat, I want to reiterate once again with confidence that naxalism will end in the entire country by March 31, 2026; it is the resolve of our government,” he added.

Shah also commended CM Patel and Sanghavi for maintaining law and order in the state. Starting Saturday, Shah was on a two-day visit to the state.

Earlier on Sunday, Shah participated in a number of public events that included tree plantation, inauguration of two new buildings of urban health centres and renovated Sardar Baug in Lal Darwaja area of Ahmedabad. The restoration work of the historic garden has been done by Torrent Group’s philanthropic arm, UNM Foundation.

The newly restored Sardar Baug has a total area of 26,010 square metres. Its salient features include a large entrance gate with a wheelchair-accessible ramp, 1.5 km-long pathway for walking and jogging, open gym with weather resistant equipment, open-air oval-shaped amphitheatre with seating arrangement for 150 people, eight water bodies with seating area and a rose garden.

Shah also visited the temple of Goddess Bhadrakali in Ahmedabad.

Now, call 112 for any emergency

Union Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a new consolidated emergency helpline service, 112, of the Gujarat Police on Sunday. The emergency service number will cater to various emergency calls related to fire, police, women’s safety and emergency related to children and disaster instead of having different toll-free emergency numbers for it such as 100, 101, 181, 1098, 1070 and 1077.
