The Ahmedabad Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested a 23-year-old man on charges of stealing oil from tankers in the city. The arrested was identified as Nirdeh Ravikant Yadav,a native of Itawa in Uttar Pradesh. He was staying in a rented house in Naroda.
The police said Yadav was wanted in several cases of oil theft and had been on the run for several months.
He is also accused of stealing oil tankers from highways and selling them off to transport companies.
The police said Yadav had been lifting tankers for at least last seven years. They suspect he might be involved in such cases outside Ahmedabad,too.
He was booked for theft under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
