The team also met other women faculty members on Thursday again to collect facts about the incident that has rocked the university for the last 15 days.

The fact-finding committee set up by the Gujarat University along with chairperson of the Gujarat State Commission for Women (GSCW) Leelaben Ankoliya met the woman faculty member on whose complaint of alleged sexual harassment, the dean of the university’s political science department Sharman Zala, was arrested.

The team also met other women faculty members on Thursday again to collect facts about the incident that has rocked the university for the last 15 days. GU syndicate member Narhari Amin, who is also a member of the fact-finding committee, told this reporter that his committee had been meeting a cross section of the university employees for the last four days to collect as much information as possible about the incident. Stating that it was a very unfortunate incident in a university, Amin said that the brief of the committee was to gather details about the incident and submit it to the university syndicate which would meet on Friday.

“The committee has gathered facts about the incident and it will be submitted to the syndicate. It is for the syndicate to decide what action to take in the matter,” Amin said when asked if the syndicate would go for dismissal of Sharman Zala.
GSCW chairperson Leelaben Ankoliya visited the university and met several women faculty members, including the complainants.

“I have collected details from the complainant and other women teachers. I will submit my report to the state education department in this connection,” she said.

Vice chancellor M N Patel said that any decision pertaining to the dismissal would be taken by the syndicate only.
