Four fuel tanker drivers were arrested by the Vadodara rural police for alleged theft of highly inflammable Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) they were transporting from Dahej to Indore Saturday. The stolen LPG was meant to be sold illegally in gas cylinders later.
According to an FIR lodged at Jarod police station, the incident occurred at 11.30 am on December 28 near the Bhaniyara village border after the cops received information that the four accused were pilfering LPG from an HPCL tanker directly into empty commercial gas cylinders that were brought in a tempo on an open plot in Waghodia taluka. The tanker was on its way to Indore from Dahej.
The four were caught red-handed by the Jarod police who also seized five filled gas cylinders as well as 34 empty cylinders worth Rs 78,700. Gas refilling pipes as well as a pick-up van have been confiscated in addition to 100 kilogram of gas worth Rs 7,000 recovered from the spot.
The FIR was lodged based on the complaint of Gurdeep Singh Parihar, a resident of Guna in Madhya Pradesh, who runs a transport firm that leased out about 10 trucks to the fuel company. All the accused — identified as Madhya Pradesh residents Halim Munshi Khan and Bhagwat Rathod, and Rajasthan residents Sanjaysinh Bishnoi and Rameshwarlal Bishnoi — were employed at the transport firm.
The police have booked the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 381 (theft by clerk or servant in respect of any property in the possession of master or employer), [120(b)] (criminal conspiracy), and 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter).
