A RANGE forest officer with the Surat Forest Department has registered a police complaint against her estranged husband, a Surat Regional Transport Office Inspector, accusing him of stalking her using a GPS tracker.

According to the police, the complainant got married in 2020. After a few years of marriage, “differences arose” between the couple, leading to “frequent quarrels”, police said citing the complaint.

They have allegedly been estranged for the past year, with the woman now residing with her parents after she allegedly left the suspect’s house. Their separation case is pending before the Surat district court, the complaint said.

Police said that a few days ago, while cleaning her car, the complainant allegedly found a GPS tracker with a SIM card hidden inside the bonnet. She asked her family members, including her parents, about it, but they claimed that they were unaware of how it got there.

On Tuesday, she approached the police. Police booked her husband under Section 78(1)(ii) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly stalking a woman.

A senior police officer said, “We have called the RTO Inspector and will record his statement.”
