Surat Municipal Education Board gets new chairman

Textile businessman Rajendra Kapadia was appointed as the chairman of the Surat Municipal Education Board (SMEB) on Friday. Ranjana Goswami, a trustee of Modi Samarthak Mahila Mandal in Surat, was made the vice chairman. Both are close to state BJP president C R Paatil, said sources.

This comes after SMEB chairman Dhanesh Shah quit the post on February 6 after his name cropped up in an anonymous letter that alleged that BJP councillors were indulging in corrupt activities.

While Rajendra’s wife Kiranben Kapadia had been a BJP corporator from ward 19 for two terms before 2021 municipal elections, Rajendra has worked in the party organisation for over 30 years.
