The state climate change department is likely to seek approximately Rs 1000 crore from the Centre to finance a series of climate change studies.
A few of the topics of study include the impact of climate change on crop pattern,on the health of people,on urban lifestyle,on sea level rise and potential of solar power generation to fight climate change in Gujarat.
Senior officials of the department confirmed that a state action plan was also being readied as per the National Climate Change Action plan.
The state plan will be prepared by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI),New Delhi, with financial assistance from Germany and other international agencies, said a climate change department official.
TERI is likely to submit the primary draft of the Gujarat Climate Change Action Plan shortly. After the state governments clearance,we will send it for the Centres approval. We are likely to demand huge assistance from the Centre for launching various schemes for controlling the impact of climate change in the state, the official added.
Though the state government had founded a separate climate change action department almost three years ago,the department
is yet to make any substantial headway.
