Smart City: State inks Rs19K-cr agreement with China

In an attempt to promote clean energy in the state, a second MoU was signed between iNDEXTb and Li Cun Xuan.

An MoU, pledging investments worth Rs 19,000 crore to build a new smart city in Gujarat, was signed between Gujarat government and China Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Limited (CSMEI) on Saturday, the third day of Chief Minister Anandiben Patel’s tour of China.

State-owned iNDEXTb signed four MoUs on Saturday, including the one with CSMEI a subsidiary of CASME, for developing a new smart city on 20 square kilometers area in the state, stated an official release from the state government. Gujarat already has GIFT City and Dholera SIR which are being developed as smart cities.

“This MoU, in addition to inclusion of GIFT City for pilot smart cities project between India and China, lays roadmap for development of smart cities in Gujarat,” tweeted Patel.

Patel also held a series of one-to-one business meetings with representatives of Chinese companies in Beijing. She also held a meeting with members of China Association for Small and Medium Enterprises (CASME).

In an attempt to promote clean energy in the state, a second MoU was signed between iNDEXTb and Li Cun Xuan, chairman, Sinofinn Group for bio-waste and city-waste based power projects. Guangdong’s Richwood Group and iNDEXTb signed an MoU for developing hospitality and tourism infrastructure at Gandhinagar, transport infrastructure in Surat and logistic parks at Kandla port and Dahej Petroleum Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR). Another MoU was signed between Gujarat government and Gao Xia, chairman, Hong Bang Finance and Investment Ltd for infrastructure projects.

During the day, Sanghi Industries also signed an MoU with Chinese company for generating power from gas generated from cement waste.
