Samarjitsinh Gaekwad to be coronated today

The coronation ceremony of Samarjitsinh Gaekwad will be held on Friday at Laxmi Vilas Palace. It will be a low-key family affair with few outside guests, Sararjitsinh said,adding its just to abide by the family tradition that says the throne should never be empty.

During the hour-long ceremony to be conducted by the family priest,Samarjitsinh and his wife Radhikaraje will assume the bhadraasan (silver seat).

Samarjitsinh is the only son of the late Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad who passed away on May 10 this year after battling kidney cancer. Samarjitsinh is the natural heir. Ranjitsinh,who was the erstwhile Maharaja of Baroda,also served two terms as a Congress Member of Parliament from Vadodara.
