Rs 12 lakh unaccounted cash recovered from angadia

The cash was seized from one firm whose named had reportedly cropped up in a hawala racket busted by the Mangalore police recently.

Income Tax sleuths recovered unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 12 lakh from an angadia (courier firm) in Kalupur area of the city during a raid late on Tuesday. Raids were carried out at three courier firms that lasted till 3 am on Wednesday.

The cash was seized from one firm whose named had reportedly cropped up in a hawala racket busted by the Mangalore police recently.

Sources said three teams of I-T sleuths raided the firms located at Ratan pol in Kalupur area in connection with the ongoing election duty to check the flow of unaccounted cash. While I-T officials denied having specific information before raiding the firms and said it was a random checking,sources said officials had specific information about one of the firms whose name had cropped up in a hawala racket busted by Mangalore police the first week of October.

According to the Mangalore police,information related to the firm had been passed on to the local branch of Income Tax recently.

They said one of the persons arrested by the Mangalore police had been identified as Suresh Zhala who works in the courier firm in Ahmedabad.
