Rains lash most parts of south Gujarat

With rains pouring heavily in south Gujarat in the last 24 hours,several incidents of waterlogging have been reported in Surat city.

With rains pouring heavily in south Gujarat in the last 24 hours,several incidents of waterlogging have been reported in Surat city. However,no causalities have been reported till Saturday evening. The water level in the Ukai Dam has gone up to 290.27 feet.

The late downpour has also brought the mercury level down giving some comfort to the citizens. Waterlogging in certain areas caused problems for the commuters and some schools remained closed in the city on Saturday.

According to the details received from the flood control department in Surat district Collector’s office,the rainfall measured in different talukas in last 32 hours is 45 mm in Bardoli,85 mm in Choryasi,30 mm in Kamrej,12 mm in Mahuwa,3 mm in Mangrol,15 mm in Olpad,32 mm in Palsana,6 mm in Songadh,3 mm in Valod and 76 mm in Surat city.

While rainfall measured in neighbouring areas is 32 mm in Navsari,34 mm in Jalalpore, 50 mm in Gandevi,30 mm in Chikhli,37 mm in Vasda,59 mm in Valsad city,23 mm in Pardi,28 mm in Umargam,13 mm in Dharampur and 30 mm in Kaprada. In Dang district,Ahwa reported 10 mm,Saputara 6 mm and Vaghai 35 mm. However,the farmers are waiting for more rainfall for their crops.

The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall in the region in the next 24 hours.
