Oppn leader demands probe against VMC officials

Demanding a probe by state vigilance commission or suspension of official concerned and black listing of a consultant in connection with the alleged design flaw in Lalbaug Railway overbridge.

Demanding a probe by state vigilance commission or suspension of official concerned and black listing of a consultant in connection with the alleged design flaw in Lalbaug Railway overbridge, leader of Opposition from Congress Chinnam Gandhi in Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) started an indefinite hunger strike in front of Mayor’s office on Friday.

However,VMC Mayor Jyoti Pandya said Gandhi’s approach towards the issue “was obstructionist” and “his demands would not be met”.

The newly-built overbridge,a major traffic junction that connects southern Vadodara with other areas parts of the city,is scheduled to be inaugurated on Monday.

However, due to lack of space in the middle of the bridge, city traffic police and VMC officials have decided not to allow right hand turn to vehicles from the bridge.

Gandhi said without two-way traffic, the bridge would serve no purpose. “Due to design flaw, there will be no right hand turn on the bridge and commuters’ woes will continue as they will have to make detours. On account of faulty design, the VMC officials wasted Rs 50 crore,” Gandhi told The Indian Express.
