NEP only education policy which was accepted by all: Union Minister

The union minster also said asked the Central University of Gujarat (CUG) to ensure that the NEP reaches the grassroots level.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah Sunday said that the National Education Policy brought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only education policy which faced no controversy or opposition and was accepted by all.

“Normally education policy has a history of controversies… Unfortunately a tradition has been formed where education system is attached with ideology.  But nobody could oppose or blame Modiji’s National Education Policy in 2020. The entire country accepted it unanimously and is working for its implementation,” Shah said in his address at the fourth convocation of Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar.

The union minster also said asked the Central University of Gujarat (CUG) to ensure that the NEP reaches the grassroots level.

He said that this education policy has the power to put the youth of India on the stage in front of the youth of the world as it has been prepared after extensive deliberations.

Shah added that the National Education Policy has laid special emphasis on mother tongue as a and in order to maintain that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made provision for compulsory primary education in the mother tongue.

He also said that the NEP has also made provisions to bring flexibility in higher education, along with emphasis on e-learning.

“The policy is based on Indian values but includes all the elements of modern education. The aim of this policy is to prepare students who have national pride as well as a sense of world welfare and also have all the capabilities to become global citizens in this policy,’ he stated.

Stressing on the opportunities provided by PM Modi for the youth of the country, Shah said that in 2016 there were 724 start-ups in the country which increased to over 70,000 in 2022. Additionally, 107 start-ups are in the unicorn club compared to just 4 in 2016.

“44 per cent of the total start-ups in the country are run by women and girls and 45 per cent of the start-ups are in tier- 2 and tier -3 cities. Shah said that Modiji started the Make in India scheme by identifying many sectors and many new sectors were opened in it. As a result, India’s merchandise exports have crossed $400 billion and through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme Rs 4 lakh crore has been invested,” he added.

A total of 318 students including 37 PhD, 18 MPhil, 224 post-graduates and 39 bachelors were conferred degrees in the convocation ceremony.

Apart from this, CUG medals were also awarded to 22 students who secured the highest marks in graduate and post graduate courses.
