Neighbour, 2 friends gangrape 16-year-old teen in Gujarat’s Porbandar; police launch search for suspects

According to the police, the main accused asked the survivor to accompany him for a late night snack around 12:30 am on Tuesday. Both went out in his Tata Safari SUV where he allegedly made her consume an intoxicating substance, said the police. He then took her to a party plot where the accused and his two friends allegedly took turns raping her, said a police official. All of them then drove her to a chowpatty where a black-coloured car was already parked, said the police. The survivor was made to sit in the black car which was driven by a fourth unidentified person, said the police, adding, they drove her to a nearby village and made her drink lime juice before returning back. The police statement said, “The main accused later put the survivor back into the SUV and drove her back to her house around 4:30 am.”

An FIR was registered in connection with the case on Friday following a complaint filed by the survivor. Based on the FIR, the police booked the four persons under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A police inspector familiar with the incident said, “The primary accused is the survivor’s neighbour and is also known to the family. The other two are his friends. The fourth person who was driving the black car is yet to be identified. We are also establishing whether he was involved in the sexual assault.”

The inspector said “A manhunt has been launched to arrest the accused persons. We are also collecting the CCTV footage from multiple areas to reconstruct the incident”.
