Eight persons have been arrested from a Navsari village for allegedly possessing morphine worth Rs 8.12 lakh, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the house of one Mubarak Kadri at Kagwai village Sunday night and found two suspicious packets of white powdery substance in a bag, said DSP V J Jadeja, adding that forensic experts, who were immediately called in, confirmed that the packets — weighing 812 gm and 100 mg — contained morphine.
All the eight people in the house were arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police have also seized a car, three motorcycles, mobile phones and cash from the spot.
They are also searching for two more suspects.
