Mehta’s charges baseless: Ex-minister Jadeja

The Modi government said the charges levelled in Justice (retd) R A Mehta’s letter refusing to take charge as Gujarat Lokayukta were baseless

The Modi government said the charges levelled in Justice (retd) R A Mehta’s letter refusing to take charge as Gujarat Lokayukta were baseless.

BJP spokesperson I K Jadeja tweeted hours after Mehta’s letter became public,“Who is dictating justice Mehta? He has been misguided.” Later in a release,he questioned the intention of Mehta in releasing the letter to the media.

“Justice Mehta is free to express his feelings. But how far is it fair by a judicial personality to leak the letter to media?’’ he said.

The BJP questioned the source of information of Mehta who alleged the government spent Rs 45 crore in its legal battle over Lokayukta.

“Is it fair to make such an allegation on the basis of news reports? From where has he obtained this information?’’ Jadeja said.

He advised Mehta to rethink as the legal battle by the government was not against him but the process of his selection.

Meanwhile,Nitin Patel, the state government spokesperson, said,“We will study the letter and then reply.’’
