Two days after a woman and her three young daughters were found charred to death in a mysterious condition at their residence in Bhavnagar city, the police have booked the husband for murder.
Hussain Sayeed,a peon with SBI,Bhavnagar branch, has been arrested for killing his wife Ayesha (45) and three daughters
Madina (19),Muskan (17) and Sophia (16).
Sayeed allegedly mixed sleeping pills in their food on Thursday night and took his only son to his brother-in-laws place only to return and set the house ablaze. Cooking gas available at home was used for this. A case of murder and criminal conspiracy has been registered under sections 302 and 112 of the Indian Penal Code against Sayeed, said the police.
The charred remains of the four were found from their residence at block number 7 in SBI colony in Bhavnagar city early Friday morning. Preliminary investigations revealed that gas leak led to the fire. An LPG cylinder was found from the drawing room where the bodies were found.
Initially,Sayeed pretended that he was at Sihor the whole night and came to know about the incident only when his neighbours called him up.
During interrogation,Sayeed told the police that he suspected Ayesha who ran a beauty parlour at their place of cheating on him. She had also been spoiling his three daughters,he alleged. The eldest,Madina, who was married and settled in Mumbai, had attempted suicide a month ago. She had come to Bhavnagar only in the morning of the fateful day.
The police said two things went against Sayeed. Instead of the kitchen, the cylinder was found lying in the drawing room. Besides,Sayeed, when called by neighbours, reached home within 10-15 minutes. Sihor is 20 km away from Bhavnagar. It would have taken him longer to reach Bhavnagar if he were in Sihor, said the police.
During interrogation,Sayeed told the police that he brought Punjabi food from outside for the entire family. As per plan,he had brought 15 sleeping pills, which he crushed to powder and mixed it with paneer tikka masala that the four women had.
He made it sure that his son did not take the food. Later,he took his son to Sihor. He told their relatives that he has some work in Vertej and would return by morning. He then returned straightaway and found all the four fast asleep. He brought the cylinder to the drawing room, left the nozzle open, placed a matchstick and left on his motorbike, said the police.
