Lynching a result of police apathy: Cong MLA

Senior police officers from Vadodara district on Saturday visited Kadwal village in Pavi Jetpur taluka where three persons were stoned to death by villagers on Wednesday.

Senior police officers from Vadodara district on Saturday visited Kadwal village in Pavi Jetpur taluka where three persons were stoned to death by villagers on Wednesday. But Congress MLA from the area,Mohansinh Rathwa, said the incident occurred as complaints by the locals have not been taken seriously by the police.

On the other hand, police officers,in a meeting with sarpanchs and tribal leaders of around 50 villages in Pavi Jetpur, said only three big cases of theft have been registered at the Pavi Jetpur police station in the last three months.

“Most of the talk about thefts were rumours that spread from one village to another causing panic in the area. However,as a preventive measure, one State Reserve Police team along with senior police officers will comb the area for suspicious characters,” said Vadodara Superintendent of Police,B S Jebaliya.

Rathwa,on the other hand, demanded setting up of a new police station in Kadwal village. “The present outpost with one sub-inspector and two constables cater to 42 villages. Many villagers have said that their complaints are not registered at the Pavi Jetpur police station and this has led to this situation. We request the police officers to look into the safety issue of the villagers,” he said.
