ISI conspiracy case: Court reserves verdict till January 12

The Special POTA Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment in the controversial ISI conspiracy case till January 12.

The Special POTA Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment in the controversial ISI conspiracy case till January 12.

Special POTA Judge Jyotsana Yagnik had earlier reserved her verdict till December 2 in the case. The trial in the case is over as both prosecution and the defence have concluded their arguments.

The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) had initially lodged a complaint against 50 odd-people for hatching a conspiracy to avenge the 2002 riots. The accused had been slapped with charges under provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

POTA charges were, however, lifted from 10 of the accused after the Gujarat HC upheld the POTA Review Committee’s recommendations and ordered to separate their trial from the one being conducted under POTA.

The court dropped charges against two other accused,Mohammed Abdul Rauf and Asghar Ali,on the ground of double jeopardy as they had already been convicted in the Haren Pandya murder case.
