According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings, 2024, released by the Union Ministry of Education Monday, the two Gujarat institutes that continued to make it to the top 100 in the overall ranking category slipped from their previous year positions.
The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has been ranked as the best management institute for the fifth consecutive year.
While the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) slipped to 29 rank from 24, the Gujarat University in Ahmedabad too fell nine positions from 85 to 94 in the overall category rankings.
The IITGN, however, maintained its 18 rank in the engineering category though it fell down by one rank under the research institute category, going from 31 to 32.
According to the rankings, in the engineering category, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology Surat moved up from 65 to 59.
Meanwhile, IIT Gandhinagar Director, Professor, Rajat Moona said, “We are pleased with IIT Gandhinagar’s commendable performance in the NIRF 2024, where we have secured eighteenth position in the engineering category and twenty ninth position in the overall category.”
Moona said,“These rankings are a reflection of our relentless pursuit of excellence in education, research, and innovation. Our focus on interdisciplinary learning, cutting-edge research, and fostering a nurturing campus environment has been crucial in achieving these milestones.”
“We remain committed to pushing the boundaries of knowledge, enhancing our academic programmes, and contributing meaningfully to society. These rankings inspire us to continue our journey towards greater heights and reaffirm our resolve to be a leader in higher education,” he said.
In the management category, since the national rankings started in 2016, IIMA has been placed in the top position in 2017, 2018, and again from 2020 onwards even as it continued to wrest the top position this year too.
IIMA Director, Professor, Bharat Bhasker said, “We are thrilled to be recognised as the best management institute for the fifth consecutive year by the Ministry of Education’s NIRF 2024 rankings. This accolade underscores the exceptional education and pioneering research conducted by our faculty… While we take pride in this achievement, it fuels our determination to consistently pursue excellence in all our endeavours and contribute significantly to India’s growth narrative.”
NIRF outlines a methodology to evaluate and rank higher education institutions across the country. The parameters broadly cover teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practices; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusivity; and perception.
