IIM-A ‘data theft’ emails: IP addresses traced

The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Thursday traced three IP addresses of computers at the Indian Institute of Management,Ahmedabad (IIM-A) that were reportedly used for sending emails to the institute’s officials claiming data theft from the institute’s server.

The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Thursday traced three IP addresses of computers at the Indian Institute of Management,Ahmedabad (IIM-A) that were reportedly used for sending emails to the institute’s officials claiming data theft from the institute’s server.

About two weeks back,the vigilance officer of IIM-A had lodged a complaint with the cyber cell of DCB in this connection.

“The vigilance officer had stated in the complaint that somebody with a fake identity was sending such emails in order to tarnish the institute’s image,” said Himanshu Shukla,Deputy Commissioner of Police,DCB.

He said that after investigating the system,three IP Addresses had been traced which are located inside the campus itself. The institute’s system administrator has been asked to provide the time when the computers were used,added the DCB officer.
