Jawahar Chavda, former state cabinet minister and senior BJP leader, has written to Union Minister and Porbandar MP Mansukh Mandaviya alleging that the Central government has been doing “injustice” by meting out “step-motherly treatment” to the people of Porbandar and Junagadh by collecting “unbearable toll tax”.
Chavda shared the letter he wrote to Mandaviya, with a copy to Junagadh BJP MP Rajesh Chudasama on August 1, on social media Sunday.
The former minister alleged that the people of Porbandar and Junagadh have been discontented as they have to pay toll tax worth Rs 290 and Rs 305, respectively, at various toll booths if they have to go to the state capital of Gandhinagar to make any representation. This, he added, is in stark contrast with other constituencies of Saurashtra such as Jamnagar, Amreli, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Surendranagar where people do not have to pay any toll tax.
Chavda is a former MLA from Manavadar that falls under the Porbandar constituency. Speaking with The Indian Express, Chavda said that his demand is simple — to have a uniform policy. Either collect it (toll) from all or exempt all, he says.
