Gujarat & Rajasthan to house four indigenous N-reactors

The 6X1000 MW nuclear plant at Mithi Virdi will be constructed with the help of the USA.

Gujarat and Rajasthan will house four indigenous nuclear power reactors that are expected to be completed by 2019. “At present, four indigenous nuclear power reactors, at Kakrapar, Gujarat and Rawatbhata, Rajasthan are under construction and are expected to be completed by 2019,” said Union Minister of State, Dr Jitendra Singh in a written reply to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

“In addition, a Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor of 500 MW capacity is at an advanced stage of commissioning at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. Financial sanction has been accorded for two indigenous reactors at Gorakhpur, Haryana and these are being readied for launch in 2015 -16. These are scheduled for completion in 2021,” he added.

The Modi government has also accorded in principle approval for various sites ? including the one at Mithi Virdi in Gujarat ? for locating nuclear power projects in future, the reply added. The 6X1000 MW nuclear plant at Mithi Virdi will be constructed with the help of the USA.
