An event to pay homage to former Chief Minister of Gujarat and one of the tallest Patidar leaders in Gujarat, Keshubhai Patel, was held in Rajkot Sunday. The event was organised by Antarrashtriya Kurmi Sena (AKS), a group of Patidar community in the state.
The event was held ahead of Keshubhai’s fourth death anniversary on October 29. He died in 2020. Keshubhai was the first Chief Minister of Gujarat from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 2001, he was replaced with Narendra Modi as the CM by the BJP.
Founder member of AKS Chirag Patel said the group organised the event while recognising the contribution of Keshubhai to Gujarat.
The event was attended by leaders like former MLAs Govind Patel, Jitu Patel and Sidhharth Parmar; former MP Vallabh Kathiria, and leader of opposition in Rajkot Municipal Corporation Vasram Sagathiya among others. From Keshubhai’s family, his nephew Ashvin Patel remained present at the event.
The event was organised even as a demand had been raised by Keshubhai’s son Bharat Patel to name the new Rajkot International Airport after the former CM. Bharat was invited for the event, but he did not attend it. Chirag said Bharat could not attend because he was not in town.
