Gujarat govt reduces fuel surcharge on electricity; 1.75 crore consumers to benefit

The state-run discoms will charge Rs 2.30 per unit of power from the consumers

The Gujarat government on Tuesday announced a 15-paise per unit reduction in fuel surcharge on electricity consumption, effective from July 2025. This decision is expected to benefit around 1.75 crore consumers in the state, saving them around ₹400 crore on their power bills between July and September 2025.

With this, the state-run discoms will charge Rs 2.30 per unit of power from the consumers. The announcement was made by Energy and Petrochemical Minister Kanubhai Desai. Quoting Desai, an official release stated that in January 2024, the state government had reduced the fuel surcharge by 50 paise per unit. It was further reduced by 40 paise in October 2024.

The release stated that the latest reduction in fuel surcharge has been announced while considering efficient and appropriate power purchase management, stable power purchase rate, strong financial management and notable improvement in infrastructure changes and reduction in commercial and technical loss through monitoring.
