The 13 million consumers of the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) discoms — DGVCL, MGVCL, UGVCL and PGVCL — will not be able to avail online services of the state’s power utility for four days between June 6 (Friday) and 10 due to a scheduled statewide maintenance to “improve back-end performance”.
Senior officials, however, mentioned that consumers, who have bills long overdue or have their payment dates falling during these four days, can pay them online by 6 pm on Friday. Consumers failing to pay bills by 6pm on Friday will have to queue up at the nearest utility offices as online payments forms of the four power discoms will remain unavailable for them after that across portals owing to a data centre upgrade.
In a statement on Thursday, the GUVNL said that consumers will be unable to make online transactions from 6 pm on June 6 to 10 am on June 10 for payment of bills through various portals. Facilities for checking of status of activities as well as online complaints will also remain suspended. The GUVNL statement mentioned that online bill payments will not be possible through “company website, virtual bank accounts, common services centres, e-gram as well as branches of banks” between June 6 and 10 due to “non-IT infrastructure upgrade” of the GUVNL’s data centre.
The GUVNL has expressed “regret for the inconvenience”.
A senior official said, “We are upgrading our infrastructure in the backend that includes installation of modern, advanced hardware and equipment to improve the performance of our online services in the future…”
Apart from the four branches of Gujarat Vij Corporation Limited — Dakshin, Madhya, Paschim and Uttar — online services of Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) and Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) will also be impacted during this period.
GUVNL officials added that the online services will be restored “immediately” after the installation and test run of the new devices are completed.
