As NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore began their return journey to Earth from the International Space Station with the help of SpaceX, Maninagar Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan in Ahmedabad conducted prayers for the safe return of the Indian-origin Williams and her colleague, who have spent almost nine months in space. Prayers were held in the country and abroad under the chairmanship of Acharya Jitendriyapriyadas, the head of Maninagar Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, a statement issued by the sect on Monday said. American astronaut Williams’s father Deepak Pandya had roots in Jhulasan village of Mehsana district and she is a cousin of former minister and BJP leader Haren Pandya who was slain in 2003. She has visited Gujarat and her village at least twice since 2007.
