Even as the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) had launched a nationwide drive to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on Wednesday as “Jewellers Day”, aiming to encourage over one lakh jewellery manufacturers and artisans to pledge online to donate blood during emergencies while targeting a Guinness World Record, they were unable to achieve the feat.

Even though appeals were also made through social media and word of mouth to motivate people to come forward, GJEPC sources stated only 18,000 registrations and pledges were recorded.

Out of these 18,000 registrations, 8000 were received from Surat. Due to limited manpower and time, the GJEPC could not achieve the desired impact, said sources.
