In an embarrassment to the District Industries Centre (DIC) of Anand, a meeting invitation meant for the seven sitting MLAs of the district was sent to former MLAs in what was a “copy-paste” error. The letters were sent to BJP’s Mahesh Raval and Govind Parmar, and Punam Parmar, Niranjan Patel, Kanti Sodha Parmar, Rajendrasinh Parmar and Amit Chavda of the Congress — all who were elected MLAs in the 2017 election — to attend a meeting to be held to decide about the applications under DIC’s Manav Kalyan Yojana scheme. Chavda and Govind Parmar were the only ones to get re-elected in the 2022 election. As a result, the other five MLAs from Anand — Congress’s Chirag Patel and BJP MLAs Raman Solanki, Govind Parmar, Yogesh Patel, Kamlesh Patel and Vipul Patel — did not receive the letter. “The letters were prepared by another officer in Anand and usually, it is done by copy-pasting the ready data of elected representatives… I am only holding an additional charge and approved what the incharge junior officer did assuming it to be right. The meeting is yet to be held. We will send corrected invitations soon,” said RS Patel, incharge DIC Anand.

Poetic Grandiose

A poem by renowned Gujarati poet Tushar Shukla on the grandeur of Sardar Patel and River Narmada — where the Statue of Unity stands was the highlight of the recently held ‘Sardar Samipe Sahitya Goshti’, an event organised by the Gujarat Sahitya Academy and the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority, at Ekta Nagar in Narmada district. A minute-long video of Shukla reciting the poem, titled, ‘Sur Shabdon no melo jamyo che Sardar samipe’ was uploaded on SoU’s official Twitter handle calling it a “beautiful poetry on Iron Man Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Ektanagar”. The event saw over 50 delegates from the state coming together in a blend of literature, art and culture through the power of words and the spirit of unity.
