Gujarat Confidential: Cabinet Call?

Speculations are rife that the Cabinet of Bhupendra Patel will undergo reshuffle soon and Modhwadia is considered as a hot favourite for a berth. Modhwadia had earlier this year left Congress to join BJP and was recently elected to Gujarat Assembly from Porbandar in a bypoll.

Zaveri Funeral

Ahead of former Vadodara deputy mayor and senior Congress leader Chirag Zaveri’s funeral on Sunday, hundreds of banners and posters, paying him tribute, have come up at Manjalpur, from where Zaveri was elected as a VMC corporator for 35 years.

Zaveri had breathed his last in the US on July 8. He was 66. Considering the popularity of Zaveri, the Vadodara Police has “carefully prepared a contingency plan” to manage the crowd if needed. A senior police officer said, “We understand that his funeral can become a crowded affair. But fortunately, the family has decided to take out a procession from his residence to the crematorium in Manjalpur, which is only a kilometre away and also an internal road. So, we are not expecting any major traffic snarls but we have a contingency plan, given that political leaders and local people will throng to pay their last respects.”
