Vadodara Mayor Nilesh Rathod early Friday morning paid a surprise visit to the fruit market near the Khanderao Market, where the Vadodara Municipal Corporation office is located.

Like his predecessors, Rathod tried reasoning with the wholesale fruit merchants to remove their belongings from the roadside and stop encroaching on the street.

Traffic management continues to be a challenge for officials due to encroachment.

Rathod, accompanied by local corporators and officials of the encroachment removal department, issued a “stern warning” to the traders to restrict their trading space to their shops.

As the mayor left, however, the belongings of the traders, as well as the hand carts returned to their usual spots within minutes.
