Jayrajsinh Jadeja, husband of BJP MLA from Gondal, held a sammelan of Patidars at Ribda, a village which was once a borough of late MLA Mahipatsinh Jadeja.

Jayrajsinh and Mahipatsinh were arch rivals in late 1990s and early 2000s after Patidars, who are single largest group of voters in Gondal, propped Jayrajsinh up to counter Mahipatsinh’s arrogance and high-handedness.

Of late, Mahipatsinh’s son Aniruddhsinh, who served a life term in jail for murdering Popat Sorathiya in 1988, is trying to assert himself. But Jayrajsinh, who himself has served as Gondal MLA thrice, is apparently not in its favour. He had held a similar sammelan soon after Assembly elections around a year ago.

No ‘Wine’ Please

Former chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela, who has been critical of the existing prohibition law, told reporters at an interaction at his residence on Saturday, that “even if prohibition is lifted totally, I will not serve you those drinks”, in an indirect reference to liquor.

He went on to say, “Today, it will only be ice cream and hot samosas.” In jest, he remarked that he wanted to meet mediapersons “inside GIFT City” but he “wasn’t aware of the formalities”.
