GSHSEB officials cited the change in examination pattern as a major reason behind the show this year. “Earlier, each question used to come with two choices. But now, instead of specific choices for each question, candidates were given a general option,” GSHSEB Vice-Chairman Dinesh Patel told The Indian Express.
According to the change in the exam pattern announced in October 2023, candidates were given a general option to choose a few questions they wanted to answer from a list of questions. Earlier, each question used to come with two choices and all had to be attempted.
Further, another key modification included a hike of 10 per cent in objective questions, from 20 to 30 per cent. The share of descriptive questions declined from 30 to 20 per cent.

Similarly, in the general stream, Botad district, with 96.4, recorded the highest pass percentage while Junagadh, at 84.81, came last among the 33 districts.
However, among the Class XII general stream repeat candidates, only 49.34 per cent passed. For the science stream, the figure was 32.95 per cent. Further, the Gujarat State Open School (GSOS) exams saw a pass percentage of 54.98.
At Khavda examination centre in Kutch, which recorded the lowest pass percentage, 46 among the 90 general stream students who sat for the exams at the centre, qualified.
