Govt officer held for ‘taking bribe’ in Vadodara

Rupal Shah was arrested while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from a government school in Raghavpura in Vadodara.

The city Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a woman officer of the Central government programme’s Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan on Saturday. Rupal Shah was arrested while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from a government school in Raghavpura in Vadodara.

The ACB officials had laid a trap based on a complaint from Amrut Desai, the administrator of the school. The officer had allegedly refused to give completion certificates for constructing two classrooms without a bribe of Rs 50,000. Shah, 41, has been an officer of the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan for 12 years overseeing the completion of construction of classrooms in government schools. She was remanded to judicial custody late on Saturday evening.
