Fish-rain in Jamnagar leaves authorities clueless

Residents of Navagam in Bhanwad taluka of Jamnagar district on Sunday were taken aback when they saw fish all around them. They later said it came with the dew.

A day after the incident,the administration is still clueless about the “fish-rain”.

“All over the place,there were fish,two to six inches long. It was there on roads and streets. It was there even on terraces of many houses,’’ said K C Khelani,a resident.

Jaysukh Pandya,another resident,said,“Initially,we thought it had spilled over from some passing container. But then,fish was found on the terraces of many houses also.”

K G Panjaria,mamlatdar of Bhanwad taluka,confirmed the incident.

However,officials from government departments have not visited the place yet.

“We have been informed about the incident by the village talati.

The mamlatdar’s office has been trying to collect information about the incident and the reason behind it,” said Panjaria.

He said the incident has occurred for the first time in the region and everybody is clueless about it. There was no rain or shower that day,he said.

“It was all foggy in the morning. And,once the fog was clear,people were surprised to find fish all over the village,” said Panjaria.

According to the taluka mamlatdar’s office,the region is surrounded by a river and two big dams.

“We have witnessed hailstones,but this was something new,’’ said Khelani.
