25 rescued as fire breaks out in Ahmedabad residential complex

Officers said the incident took place at around 6.45 pm after the electrical panel duct passing through the balcony of a flat caught fire due to overheating.

Twenty-five people were rescued after a fire broke out on the third floor of an apartment complex in Anand Nagar area of Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Monday evening.

Officers said the incident took place at around 6.45 pm after the electrical panel duct passing through the balcony of a flat caught fire due to overheating. Residents of the flat were not home when it happened. Fumes from the fire quickly spread across seven floors.

According to Ahmedabad fire divisional officer Om Jadeja, “The fire broke out in the balcony of a flat on the third floor in block A of Dhanajay Towers. It was controlled when it reached the fourth floor. The smoke spread to the ninth floor, creating confusion among the residents who thought the fire had reached there. As many as 25 people, who got trapped on the upper floors, were rescued. No casualties were reported.”
