Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, while inaugurating development works of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) worth Rs 722 crore, said on Friday that it was “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee” that had resulted in Vadodara receiving development projects worth Rs 1,000 crore within six months since June.
He maintained that it was due to Modi’s expeditious supervision that the projects were not “delayed for decades as was the case under the previous dispensation”. He was speaking at the Deendayal Upadhyay auditorium in the city, where he laid foundation stones and inaugurated projects.
“Vadodara’s hunger for development has been growing… Today, we are inaugurating development projects worth Rs 722 crore… just a few months ago, in June, we inaugurated projects worth Rs 292 crore… It is (PM) Modi’s guarantee because of which a single city and district has received projects worth Rs 1,073 crore in six months,” he said.
“Modi’s guarantee has been accepted and sealed by the people in three other states recently,” he added, referring to BJP’s recent win in the Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh polls.
Accusing previous governments of “not completing projects for decades”, Patel said, “It is due to the double engine government that not a single week goes by when there are no inaugurations or ground-breaking ceremonies in some district or city… Now, it is your (elected representatives) duty to ensure that the work that is being done is of best quality…”
“Earlier, development works would not be completed for decades, as the (previous dispensation) would either delay or suspend the works, or it would remain stuck due to various reasons. Now, (PM) Narendrabhai (Modi) has expedited the process in such a way that we (BJP) also inaugurate projects for which we (BJP) lay foundation stones (during the same tenure),” he added.
At the event, Patel inaugurated a sewage treatment plant of 75 MLD capacity at Rajiv Nagar, which will supply treated waste water to IOCL and RIL. The other inaugurations included the Nizampura zonal transport hub terminal, drainage and storm water drains, diesel generator sets for pumps at various water sources, a garden at Chhani lake that has undergone beautification as well as SCADA units at sewage pumping stations and treatment plants.
The CM also inaugurated 58 dwelling units of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana project at Harni as well as lay the foundation stone for 25 two-wheeler and four-wheeler e-charging stations that will come up across the city. Moreover, he also launched ‘Rewa’ snack packs, prepared by women’s groups under the aegis of Vadodara District Collector A B Gor.
On the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit next month, Patel said, “Gujarat has become the best choice for investment, as it has cities with world-class infrastructure. The Vibrant Gujarat summit that began with inspiration from the PM in 2013 has become a vehicle for this investment. Due to its success, cities in south Gujarat, such as Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat and Vapi, have also seen much development.”
