Former Congress MP and member of royal family of Jamnagar, Daulatsinh Jadeja, passed away in Jamnagar late on Saturday. The politician, who was also father of former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja, was 79 and had been keeping ill for some time.
Jadeja breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jamnagar. His son Ajay Jadeja and Delhi’s medium pacer Ashish Nehra flew from Delhi to Jamnagar early on Saturday. On Sunday, his body was kept in Pratapvilas Palace for people to pay their last respects. Later, his body was taken to his native village of Lamba for performing last rites.
He was elected president of Saurashtra Cricket Association in 1969. He had also served as president of Jamnagar District Cricket Association. He was elected MP from Jamnagar three times in 1980s. “Shri Daulatsinh Jadeja will be remembered for his rich contribution to Gujarat. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to the Jadeja family,” PM Narendra Modi said in a tweet.
