Commuters in Vadodara miffed as buses put on poll duty

Commuters in Vadodara faced a lot of problems after the district collectorate took possession of half of the city buses from Saturday morning for poll-related activities.

Commuters in Vadodara faced a lot of problems after the district collectorate took possession of half of the city buses from Saturday morning for poll-related activities.

Following the requisition of the buses, operators Vallabhipur Transportation Cooperative Society Pvt Ltd (VTCOS) had to cancel many routes and reduced the number of buses to a great extent causing inconvenience to the passengers.

VTCOS officials told The Indian Express that the orders were given to them on Friday itself and the buses were handed over to the district administration on Saturday morning.

As many as 100 VTCOS buses generally ply on city roads, including the fleet of 75 buses (2×1) and 21 2×2 buses, which were introduced by the company for the long routes to ease the passenger flow.

“It is true that we have been asked to hand over the buses to the administration for the poll-related services. We have 100 buses running in the city but out of them 10 have gone for repairs. Today, the district administration took over 50 buses. We had to manage all the routes with the remaining buses,” said Narendra Rana,VTCOS Manager in Vadodara.

Rana added more than five routes had to be cancelled due to shortage of buses. “It was a tough call for us and we had to pick and choose the routes which were comparatively less crowded. Mostly,we had to cancel the trips in the Chhani area. We could send one bus, where we should be sending five buses.”
