Civic body demolishes ‘illegal’ shops

Demolition squads from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Tuesday removed several commercial structures built without permission in three zones,opening up 10,000 sq ft of space in a day.

In case of two shops in Paldi ward,it could not demolish them as shopkeepers brought a city civil court stay on the ongoing demolitions.

An AMC release said 14 of 16 illegally built shops in the basement of Swaminarayan Complex opposite Ankur School on Vasna Road were removed,clearing nearly 4,000 sq ft of space.

In the north zone near Naroda Patiya,1,500 sq ft of space was opened up by removing illegally built shops,the release said.

Another 4,500 sq ft of space was freed of illegal construction in Vatva ward on the P P Pandya College Road in a commercial complex opposite Dharmabhumi society,said the release adding,the demolition drive would continue in coming days.
