Civic body approves Rs 201-cr water supply project for nine villages

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has approved a Rs 201-crore water supply project for the nine villages that have been recently merged with the south-east zone,officials said on Sunday.

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has approved a Rs 201-crore water supply project for the nine villages that have been recently merged with the south-east zone,officials said on Sunday.

“Nine villages of the zone will be benefitted by the project and are expected to get water supply by June 2010,” said an SMC official.

The official added that the project is being implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Rural Mission (JNNURM).

“Work on the project will start after October and is expected to be completed by June 2010,” said SMC engineer J K Shah.

“As the project has received nod from the authorities,tenders will be floated soon. The blue-print is prepared and once a bid is received,the work order would be issued,” he added.

The project will cover Bamroli,Jiyav,Sonari,Dindoli,Godadara,Vadod,Parvat,Dumbhal and Navagam villages.

It is expected that a population of 2.20 lakh will benefit from the project.
